MacBite isMacBite Team ("we", "us"). Privacy contact: privacy@macbite.app.

This policy explains, in plain English, what the MacBite app collects, why, who helps us run it, how long we keep things and what you can do. By "MacBite" we mean the Android app and this website. You must be 16 or older to use MacBite.

The short version

What we collect and why

InformationWhy we need it
Account details: your email address, or the name and email from your Google account if you sign in with GoogleTo create and secure your account
Profile details you enter: name, sex, birth year, height, weight, goal, activity level, workouts per week, usual gym timeTo work out your daily calorie, macro and water targets and personalise the app
Photos you take or choose (gym machines, meals, progress photos)To analyse them and show you a result. See "Your photos" below
Results and logs: scan results, meals, water, workouts, weekly planTo show your history and progress
Subscription status (which plan you have, if any) and the dates of your free trialTo give you the right daily scan limit and to end the trial on time
App activity and device information: simple events such as "scan completed", crash reports, app version, phone model, Android versionTo fix problems and improve the app. These do not include your photos or profile details
Reminder settings and a notification address for your deviceTo send reminders you switch on
Messages you send usTo reply and improve MacBite
The version and date of the terms you acceptedTo keep a record that you agreed

We do not collect your location, contacts or microphone audio. The app asks your phone for permission to use the camera and to send notifications. You can say no to either and change your mind later in Android settings.

Your photos

Photos are saved on your phone, in the app's private storage. When you scan, the app shrinks the photo, removes hidden data such as location, and sends it to an image-analysis service through our server. The service sends back a result, which we store as text. We do not store the photo on our servers. The service provider handles the photo under its own terms and does not receive your name or email from us. You can remove the photos saved on your phone with Settings, Clear photos on this phone, or by uninstalling the app.

Please do not photograph other people's faces or private information.

Health and body information

Your weight, height, goals, food and workout logs can reveal things about your health. We use them only to run MacBite for you. We never use them for advertising. By entering them you agree that we may use them for this purpose, and you can withdraw that agreement at any time by deleting your account. MacBite gives estimates, not medical advice.

Who helps us run MacBite

We do not sell your information. We share it only with companies that process it for us, and only what each one needs, in these categories:

You can ask for the current list of providers at privacy@macbite.app. We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or if the business is sold or merged, in which case we will tell you first.

Where your information is processed

MacBite users are worldwide. Our providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards for those transfers, such as contract terms with each provider and the security measures described below.

How long we keep it

Keeping information safe

No system is perfectly secure. If something affecting your information goes wrong we will tell you, and the authorities where the law requires it, without unreasonable delay.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Kenya or California) you may have the right to see your information, get a copy, correct it, delete it, object to or limit some uses, take it to another service and complain to your data protection authority. In Kenya that is the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (odpc.go.ke). In the UK it is the Information Commissioner's Office, and in the EU it is your national data protection authority. You can also contact us first and we will try to put it right. You do not pay for this and you will not be treated worse for using your rights.

Where the law requires a legal reason to use your information, ours are: to provide the app you asked for (contract), your consent (for example for notifications and health-related details you choose to enter), our interest in keeping the app safe and working (legitimate interests) and obeying the law.

Do not sell or share: we do not sell personal information or share it for advertising across other companies' sites and apps.

Children

MacBite is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and the app asks for your birth year and your confirmation of age before you can create an account. If you think someone under 16 has an account, email privacy@macbite.app and we will delete it. Users aged 16 and 17 get gentler calorie targets and the app does not help them pursue fast weight loss.

This website

This website does not use cookies, advertising trackers or analytics, and has no forms or sign-in. Its fonts are served from the same site. Because it sets no non-essential cookies, there is no cookie banner.

Changes to this policy

If we make an important change we will update the date and version above and tell you in the app before it applies. Earlier versions are available on request.
